Finally my first trip out in 2012 and what a day.

Cycled in and tackled it clockwise. Good stalkers path. Snow windblown and unpredictable making the going tough. Steep final ascent onto Sgurr a Choire Riabhaich, tricky in the conditions, and the final pull onto Sgurr nan Coireachan required care.

Given time constraints headed down between the two subsiduary peaks.

So Vicky may have lived here since she was 11 (I’ll not say for how many years), but never climbed a hill. So Morag and I took her up the ridge onto the Horse shoe then back down the North ridge to the School – only had school hours for the trip.

A lovely wee introduction to scrambling. Well done Vicky

Adventures in Glencoe – The Mast

Had Finlay and Jude sleeping over and to give their Mum and Dad a lie in we went out on a wee adventure. Headed up to the mast from the quarry in Ballachulish, then onto the new forestry track

The road stops, so we headed straight down through the cut timber and then brashed our way through the trees down onto the Brecklet path – we were wet and muddy, but I must say I was the only one without a muddy bum….!!!!A lovely adventure from Ballachulish. For the less adventurous head down the forestry road to the NT visitors centre for a cup of tea, then back to Ballachulish along the path by the A82 – see website for details…

Wee Buachaille – part 2

After watching the world cup final – well done to New Zealand, we headed out to bag the second peak of the wee Buachaille. We made hard work up to the Bealach and then scampered up to the summit.

Decided to take an alternative route down and continued North then west down on the north side of the gully – would recommend it as an ascent route as you could really make it scrambly – a bit more difficult going down. Saw our first mountain hare ever in Glencoe itself though. 3.5 hours car to car – well done boy

Ben Wyvis 13/10/11

It was my day - and for the first time in a month (well it has not stopped raining since 5th September) and we were further East, Liam and I headed up to Ben Wyvis. A dry day, although a bit cloudy on top. An easy path – although we did meet the inevitable punters who had made it to the first cairn and returned, not realising the true summit is a mile further on. I didn’t say anything.

However we did have some fun on the way down, and I have to say that I struggled to keep up with Liam as he trotted down the path…

Stob Dearg – Liam’s fourth Munro

A mixed day. Climbed to the summit with Hayley, Bobby, Kaitlyn, Sandy Mac, Morag and Liam to scatter Sandy’s ashes. The kids did well and made the day a memorable event. I’ll not relate the tales publicly, but hope the climbers who we met on the top were not too distressed!!!

Well done to Hayley and Kaitlyn for making it to the top, and thanks to Sandy Mac for carrying the load…

Again working for Rob Roy Tours – and 11 lucky punters today. A typical scottish day – t-shirt at bottom, and hat and gloves on summit. HOwever we were below the cloud base, so had some decent views south and east…
