Stob Corrie Nan Lochan 02/03/11

Was kindly allowed to accompany Jagged Globe on Day 2 of their Intro to Winter Mountaineering Course to observe the MIC’s in action.  There were three instructors Alex, Max and Ed, with nine trainees so I was able to observe their different styles….

We headed up into the Lost Valley, and then cut right up onto the Bealach between Stob Coire nan Lochan and Bidean.  The snow was soft and crampons were only used on the final approach up the short headwall.  We then trekked up onto the summit.  Here is Max and his team

From here we descended via the west ridge to the Coire and then back down to the carpark.  Lots of good views of still unstable snow at the heads of the gullies.  Hopefully it will firm up tonight

Thanks to Ed and his team for allowing me to accompany them, and hopefully will get out one more day this year…
